Build a Lego House
KS2-4 Design Technology Challenge
What year group(s) is it suitable for? Key Stage 2, 3 or 4
How many students can take part? Up to 60 students working in groups of 3 or 4.
How long does the workshop last? This is a morning-long workshop running between the start of the day and the school's lunchtime.
How much space do we need? Use of the school hall or a similar space is required for a full group. Smaller groups can work in classrooms.
Any other requirements? Each team needs to be seated at their own table. Students need pencils for drawing and ideally some colouring pencils.
This challenge raises interest and awareness in construction and design, and contextualizes the Key Stage 2 and 3 Maths Curriculum. Participating pupils should not span more than two year groups in age.
After some initial training, the students work in teams to design a Lego house to a budget, create a bill of materials and then purchase and build their model. This is one of our most challenging and most popular workshops.
The winning team will be judged on their teamwork and on the quality of their designs as well as the final model which they have built. The winners each receive a small prize.
